We’ve asked singer Lena to scout a few photoshoot locations for us that will make the perfect backdrop for your holiday photos. Come with us and take pictures that you’ll want to show off to your friends.
In late summer and autumn, Vienna shines in all colors that are particularly easy to capture on camera. My life has recently moved to the beautiful 7th district. Since I’m still new to calling myself a “local resident,” I’ve made it my hobby to explore my new surroundings step by step and capture them with my cell phone camera. I then like to share my newly discovered places with my friends via Instagram story or reel.
Join me today on a little discovery tour to my favorite Instagram-worthy places in the 7th district. Who knows, maybe one or the other of you will feel inspired to rediscover your neighborhood once again and take fantastic photos.
Very “understatement”, very Viennese
The Spittelberg is not only known for the annual Christmas market but also impresses with its well-preserved Biedermeier houses. These pretty facades are the perfect background, especially if you want to show off a colorful outfit or eye-catching accessories, like my orange bag here.
If posing becomes too strenuous and you need a little break, you can refresh yourself with cool drinks at the Amerlingbeisl from Monday to Sunday, 12 p.m.–2 a.m.
📍 Stiftgasse/Spittelberg
Colorful fresh fruits and happy hustle and bustle
The weekly farmers’ market takes place every Friday on Lerchenfelder Strasse—a paradise for foodies and a great photo opportunity. The colorful fruits, delicacies, and market stalls are perfect for your Instagram feed. Admittedly, it’s always a bit bustling here, but if you take a few steps to the side, you can take photos in peace without disturbing the market visitors as they shop.
If you are team “early bird”, you can capture a beautiful picture: The sun is fighting its way through the treetops on the church square in the morning, and the light is simply magical.
📍 Ceija-Stojka-Platz at Lerchenfelder Straße/Schottenfeldgasse
On top of the 7th district
Photographing the city from above is always a good idea, and the main library at Urban-Loritz-Platz offers the perfect location. After climbing the 98 steps, a great view awaits you. Plus, the mirrored fronts of the library are a real eye-catcher.
My personal insider tip: Come here at sunset! The golden hour bathes the 7th district in a warm, orange-red light—simply perfect for your Instagram feed.
📍 Urban-Loritz-Platz 2a
Welcome to the oasis
For a relaxed photo shoot and plenty of peace and quiet, head to the Grätzloase, built and looked after by Werkimpuls. The lush green of the plants can be captured beautifully on camera, and the best thing about it is that the next spot is hidden in the background, elegantly concealing the cars and serving as a colorful eye-catcher.
By the way, I also like to use this place to read or draw in the green. In addition to posed poses, I also like to share a live moment on Instagram to give a little insight into my everyday life.
📍 Kandlgasse 15
Neubauer Street Art
As is well known, there is plenty of street art in the 7th district, but I only recently noticed the colorful mural in Kandlgasse. Hidden on the back wall of the M. Maurer Gesellschaft is a true play of colors and shapes that makes a great background for a photo.
Choose a simple outfit so as not to distract too much from the art and to harmonize well with it.
📍 Kandlgasse 20
Mirror, mirror on the wall
A mirror selfie always works, but you don’t want to be completely mainstream. The next location is therefore ideal for all of you who are looking for a special background.
If you look closely, you will find a decorated mirror on Sankt-Ulrichs-Platz – perfect for a creative mirror selfie.
📍 Sankt-Ulrichs-Platz 6
New shops, vintage doors
Finally, there is a classic: a colorful door with graffiti tags. Whether standing or sitting, this urban Viennese look is simply a must-have for your feed.
If you fancy a coffee, I can recommend the newly opened Comet Café, which is open Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
📍 Kirchengasse 44
Now you are real photography pros, and nothing stands in the way of your next Instagram post. Have fun discovering the places and taking lots of colorful, individual pictures!
